I know about that setting and have it turned on for our instance but it only seems to effect the /course/index.php page for 2.2.
Before I submit anything to a tracker I was just trying to make sure someone hasn't already done so and if anyone was working on this type of thing.
If the shortname setting isn't setup for the newer versions I'm going to be looking into creating a tracker and if I have to work on it myself.
