Thanks, I got something working that shows nothing, "(edited)" or "(graded)" after the assignment.
I will look at the completion options as well, although students are allowed to work on the essays throughout the week, so I don't want to make the assignment disappear after they have started editing it.
Next up I'm trying to hook into the grading process... after the students have submitted their essays they are going to be posted in a forum for group discussion the following week. Plan was for the assignment to get posted to a discussion as the teacher grades it.
