Browser support statement

Hi, I have a question about browser support.

2.5 release notes state a recommended minimum browser of:

  • Google Chrome 11
  • Firefox 4
  • Safari 5
  • Internet Explorer 8 (IE 10 required for drag and drop of files from outside the browser into Moodle)

It also points to Google's policy which states that"we support the latest version of Google Chrome (which automatically updates whenever it detects that a new version of the browser is available) as well as the current and prior major release of Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari on a rolling basis. Each time a new version of one of these browsers is released, we begin supporting the update and stop supporting the third-oldest version."

I am wondering why support versions as old as Chrome 11 and Firefox 4, as these browsers are currently at Chrome 28 and Firefox 21. That's a LOT of test environments for the Moodle QA peeps wink

In addition, both Firefox and Chrome are also now auto-updating.

Why not take the Google approach and have a browser support statement along the lines of:

"Moodle supports the latest versions of Google Chrome and Firefox (which both automatically update whenever they detect that a new version of the browser is available)"

Cheers,

Mark
